Ayodhya, UP: A serious food safety threat, authorities bust a large-scale counterfeit edible oil racket, seizing more than 500 cartons of fake Fortune products from a warehouse in Wazirganj.
The operation follows a formal complaint by Adani Wilmar, triggering swift action by police and food safety officials. Investigators say the racket involves repackaging substandard or adulterated oil in near-identical branded containers, designed to deceive consumers and infiltrate local markets.
Officials describe the packaging as highly sophisticated, with forged labels, logos and invoices that closely mimic genuine products, pointing to an organised and potentially widespread distribution network. Authorities warn the seized stock could have posed serious health risks if it had reached households.
Samples have been sent for laboratory analysis, while investigators work to trace the supply chain, including sources of counterfeit packaging and distribution links. No arrests are confirmed so far, but officials indicate the probe is expanding and more action is likely.
The case underscores the growing threat of food adulteration targeting high-demand consumer goods, raising urgent concerns over public health, consumer safety and regulatory enforcement.
