New Delhi: A 12 year old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in the Bishungarh police station area of Hazaribagh district in Jharkhand. The incident involved extreme physical violence and came to light when the girls body was discovered on Wednesday March 25 2026 near an open field or bamboo grove approximately 500 metres away from her village.

According to reports the girl had gone missing on Tuesday evening March 24 2026 after she was last seen participating in a Mangla Julus religious procession ahead of Ram Navami.

Villagers found her mutilated body the next morning and alerted the police. The family identified the body and alleged that she was raped before being murdered.

Police described severe injuries on the victim including a crushed face apparently caused by a heavy stone broken teeth eye trauma and other signs of brutal assault.

A piece of bamboo or small piece of wood was found inserted in the girls private parts. Officers suspect sexual assault but stated that confirmation of rape would come only after the postmortem report.

Bishungarh Sub Divisional Police Officer Baidyanath Prasad or B N Prasad confirmed that forensic teams from the FSL and dog squads were deployed to the crime scene for evidence collection. Speaking to ANI he said evidence has been submitted by the FSL.

A dog squad also arrived. Investigation is ongoing in this regard. CDRs of the suspects are being extracted. Confirmation of rape can be made after the postmortem report arrives. A piece of bamboo was found in the girls private parts.

An FIR has been lodged by the victims mother against unidentified persons. A Special Investigation Team has been constituted under the supervision of the Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police to probe the case.

Police are questioning suspects and extracting call detail records as part of the ongoing investigation. The body was sent for postmortem examination.

Hazaribagh Sadar MLA Pradeep Prasad and Barkagaon MLA Roshan Lal Chowdhury visited the victims family to offer condolences. They assured the family of all possible support and demanded immediate and stringent action from the district administration to ensure justice.

The gruesome incident has shocked the local community with residents expressing outrage over the brutality. As of the latest reports from March 27 2026 no arrests had been publicly confirmed and the investigation remains active. Police have emphasised that they are working to nab the culprits at the earliest.
