New Delhi/Tehran/Washington: Iran on Monday firmly rejected claims by the United States that negotiations are underway, contradicting statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who earlier suggested that “productive” discussions were taking place.
Iranian officials said there has been no direct or indirect communication with Washington, dismissing the U.S. narrative as inaccurate and premature. Senior leadership in Tehran reiterated that no agreement or negotiation process currently exists, even as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.
The denial comes hours after Trump announced a five-day delay in planned U.S. strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, citing progress in talks and the possibility of a broader diplomatic settlement. However, Iranian authorities pushed back strongly, with top officials stating that such claims do not reflect reality.
Iran’s position underscores a widening disconnect between Washington and Tehran at a critical moment in the conflict. Officials in Tehran emphasized that the country will stand firm on its strategic and security positions and will not negotiate under pressure or military threats.
The standoff follows weeks of escalating hostilities triggered by U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets in late February. Iran’s subsequent actions, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, have heightened global concerns over energy security and the risk of a broader regional war.
While Trump has framed the pause in military action as an opportunity for diplomacy, Iranian leaders have portrayed it as a tactical retreat by Washington rather than a sign of engagement.
Analysts say the absence of confirmed communication channels raises doubts about any immediate de-escalation, warning that without direct dialogue, the situation could deteriorate rapidly.
With both sides maintaining hardline positions and conflicting narratives, the prospect of negotiations remains uncertain, leaving the region on edge as the temporary pause in hostilities continues.
