India Studying Implications of US Supreme Court Tariff Ruling, Says Commerce Ministry

New Delhi: The Ministry of Commerce on Saturday said it is closely examining the implications of a recent judgment by the Supreme Court of the United States concerning tariffs, following subsequent announcements by the US administration.

In a press release issued by the commerce ministry, it was noted that the ruling was delivered on Thursday and was followed by a press conference addressed by Donald Trump. During the briefing, President Trump outlined certain steps to be taken by his administration in response to the court’s decision.

“We have noted the US Supreme Court judgement on tariffs yesterday. President Trump has also addressed a press conference in that regard. Some steps have been announced by the US Administration. We are studying all these developments for their implications,” the statement said.

Officials indicated that the government is assessing the potential impact of the developments on India’s trade interests, export sectors, and ongoing commercial engagements with the United States.

While the ministry did not elaborate on specific measures under review, sources suggested that inter-ministerial consultations may be undertaken if required to safeguard India’s economic interests.

The United States remains one of India’s largest trading partners, and any changes in tariff policy or related legal interpretations are likely to be closely tracked by policymakers and industry stakeholders alike.

Further updates are expected after the government completes its assessment of the ruling and the measures announced by Washington.
