New Delhi: A young protester has claimed that demonstrators gathered in Delhi could be removed by authorities by the next morning, expressing fears of an imminent police operation amid heightened security in the national capital.
Speaking exclusively to Public News X, the protester said participants at the site were anticipating action from the authorities and were preparing themselves for the possibility of being evicted. The individual alleged that protesters had received indications suggesting the gathering may not be allowed to continue beyond the night.
The warning comes at a time of increased security arrangements in central Delhi ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which begins on July 20. Delhi Police has issued public advisories stating that no permission has been granted for any unauthorized march toward Parliament and that prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) remain in force in the New Delhi district. Police have also warned that legal action may be taken against individuals violating these restrictions.
The protest site has remained under close watch following the removal of activist Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar on July 18 after he had been on a hunger strike for 21 days. Delhi Police stated that Wangchuk was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital after concerns over his deteriorating health and in compliance with directions related to his medical condition. Protest organizers, however, alleged that the move was carried out against his wishes and described it as a forced removal.
Against this backdrop, uncertainty has grown among those continuing the demonstration. In the interview with Public News X, the young protester expressed concern that authorities could clear the remaining protesters overnight. The individual urged supporters to remain united and peaceful while continuing to press for their demands.
