PM Modi Launches NDA Election Campaign in Tamil Nadu
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Jan 23 officially launched the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) election campaign for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with a large rally at Maduranthakam near Chennai.
Addressing the gathering, Modi said the NDA campaign will focus on winning voter support across the state and called for a “double-engine government.”
At the rally, the Prime Minister sharply criticised the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government. He accused it of promoting “corruption, mafia and crime” and said Tamil Nadu needed change in governance. Modi also claimed that support for an NDA government in the state was growing.
Senior NDA leaders including AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami and others were present on the dais with Modi during the rally.
The event marked the first major public campaign for the NDA ahead of Tamil Nadu’s assembly polls, scheduled later this year.
Security arrangements for the rally involved multiple tiers of police deployment and traffic management on major roads between Chennai and the venue.
This rally follows election preparations by NDA allies in the state and ongoing seat-sharing talks within the coalition.
