Tamil Nadu NDA Alliance Finalises Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit; Vijay’s TVK Allotted ‘Whistle’ Symbol

NDA Alliance

New Delhi / Chennai: As the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is taking final shape in the state ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit.

AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami hosted a BJP delegation for breakfast discussions, aimed at firming up seat-sharing arrangements and alliance strategy for the elections.

In a parallel development, the Election Commission of India (ECI) allotted the ‘whistle’ symbol to actor‑politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking the party as a key player in the upcoming polls. Party officials said this recognition will help strengthen TVK’s visibility at the grassroots level, as it prepares to contest constituencies across the state.

The NDA’s consolidation comes amid intense pre-poll manoeuvring, with T.T.V. Dhinakaran’s AMMK reportedly returning to the alliance, further bolstering the coalition’s presence in Tamil Nadu. Political analysts note that the combined strength of AIADMK, BJP, and allied partners, along with TVK’s entry, could reshape electoral dynamics in the state.

Officials from both the alliance and TVK emphasised strategic planning and voter outreach as critical in the weeks leading up to the elections. The PM’s visit for a major rally is expected to energise party workers and consolidate support for the NDA ahead of the polling season.

The twin developments, formalising the NDA alliance and allocating a distinct symbol to TVK, underscore the high-stakes nature of the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections and signal a period of heightened political activity across the southern state.
