North Korea Showcases 50 New 600mm Rocket Launchers 

North Korea/New Delhi: North Korea unveils 50 newly built 600mm multiple launch rocket systems in central Pyongyang, marking one of its largest public displays of heavy rocket artillery in recent years. 

The systems are presented ahead of a key political gathering of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, underscoring the regime’s continued emphasis on strengthening strategic military capabilities.

State media report that the launchers are produced by the country’s defense industry and formally handed over as a contribution to the upcoming party congress. The vehicles are lined up in formation at the April 25 House of Culture, drawing attention both domestically and internationally. The public ceremony signals accelerated production and deployment of large-caliber rocket systems as part of Pyongyang’s broader military modernization drive.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attends the event and personally inspects the new systems. According to official statements, he describes the 600mm multiple launch rocket system as a decisive weapon capable of disabling enemy command structures and key military infrastructure in the event of conflict. He praises defense workers for boosting output and advancing what he calls self-reliant national defense.

Military analysts say the 600mm MLRS occupies a unique position between traditional rocket artillery and short-range ballistic missile systems. With an estimated range approaching 400 kilometers, the platform is widely assessed to be capable of striking targets across South Korea if launched from inside North Korean territory. Experts also note that previous tests of similar systems demonstrate improved accuracy and maneuverability, raising concerns about their potential use in tactical nuclear roles.

The unveiling of 50 units at once suggests that North Korea is moving beyond limited testing toward larger-scale deployment.
