DRDO Accelerates Work on Next-Generation Electronic Warfare as India–EU Defence Talks Progress

DRDO

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is accelerating work on next-generation electronic warfare (EW) technologies as part of India’s push to strengthen indigenous defence capabilities and achieve greater control over the electromagnetic spectrum.

Senior defence officials have said DRDO is focusing on advanced EW systems for integration across platforms, including indigenous fighter aircraft. These efforts are aimed at improving surveillance, jamming, radar warning and protection against modern threats, in line with the government’s emphasis on self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

The focus on electronic warfare forms part of a broader modernisation drive that also includes the development of hypersonic missile technologies, counter-drone systems and other advanced military platforms, several of which have been showcased at recent defence parades and exhibitions.

Separately, India and the European Union are holding discussions to deepen cooperation in defence and security. As part of these talks, both sides are exploring ways to expand market access for Indian-made military equipment in European countries. The discussions are taking place under a broader India–EU strategic partnership that also covers trade, technology and security cooperation.

Together, the push by DRDO on advanced defence technologies and ongoing India–EU talks highlight India’s efforts to strengthen domestic defence capabilities while increasing its presence in global defence markets.
