Bihar Budget

Patna / New Delhi: The Bihar government on Tuesday presented its biggest-ever budget of ₹3,47,589.76 crore for the financial year 2026–27 in the state assembly, marking an increase of nearly ₹30,700 crore over the previous year.

Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said the budget aims to accelerate growth while focusing on employment generation, infrastructure development, agriculture and social welfare.

The government has estimated the fiscal deficit at around 2.99 percent of the state’s gross domestic product, staying within prescribed limits. The state economy is projected to grow at nearly 14.9 percent, reflecting continued economic momentum.

A major focus of the budget is capital expenditure, with ₹63,455.84 crore allocated for infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, irrigation, power and urban development. This is the highest capital spending planned by the state so far and is expected to improve connectivity and create jobs.

The government reiterated its commitment to generate one crore jobs between 2025 and 2030, with continued emphasis on skill development, support for startups and industrial growth.

Agriculture also remains a priority area, with continued implementation of Agricultural Roadmap-4. Under the Mukhyamantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, around 73 lakh farmer families will receive an additional ₹3,000 annually, taking total assistance to ₹9,000 per year.

The budget also includes increased spending on social welfare schemes, including support for women, senior citizens and marginalised sections. More than ₹7,700 crore has been set aside for welfare-related programmes.

Education and healthcare have received higher allocations as well, with a focus on improving school infrastructure, digital learning and strengthening primary healthcare services across districts.

The ruling NDA described the budget as growth-oriented and people-centric, while opposition parties raised concerns over implementation and demanded stronger measures to address unemployment and migration.

With a record outlay and a focus on infrastructure and human development, the Bihar Budget 2026–27 outlines an ambitious roadmap for the state, with its success expected to depend on effective execution in the coming year.
