Ayodhya Terror Plotter Bludgeon To Death In Sleep By Inmate
FARIDABAD — Abdul Rehman, an under trial prisoner accused of plotting a terror attack on the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, was killed inside Neemka District Jail during the early hours of Monday, February 9, 2026. Rehman was allegedly attacked in his sleep by a fellow inmate, Arun Chaudhary, in a high security ward.
The incident took place around 2:00 AM in Chakki No 2 of Security Ward 3B. Police reports state that the assailant, Arun Chaudhary, used a sharpened stone or improvised sharp object to strike Rehman multiple times. A third inmate, Shoaib, was present in the cell at the time of the attack but was not harmed.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashok Kumar confirmed the details of the breach through an official statement. He noted that the jail administration reported three inmates were housed together in the single security ward cell. According to the police, Chaudhary attacked Rehman while he was sleeping. A murder case has since been registered at the Sadar Ballabgarh police station.
Abdul Rehman, a 20 year old resident of Milkipur in Faizabad, Ayodhya, was arrested on March 2, 2025, near Pali village in Faridabad. The arrest followed a joint operation by the Gujarat Anti Terrorism Squad, the Haryana Special Task Force, and the Intelligence Bureau.
At the time of his capture, authorities recovered two military grade hand grenades and mobile phones. Investigators alleged that Rehman was a sleeper cell operative for Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent and Islamic State Khorasan Province. He was accused of conducting reconnaissance of the Ram Temple and other sensitive buildings under instructions from handlers allegedly linked to Pakistan ISI.
The primary suspect, Arun Chaudhary, also known as Abbu Jatt, is a known criminal from Jammu with at least eight cases against him involving murder and attempted murder. He was transferred to Neemka Jail from Kathua in October 2024 following a controversial social media live stream from inside his previous prison.
A judicial inquiry is now underway to investigate how a weapon was obtained within a high security zone and why a violent history sheeter was sharing a cell with a high risk terror suspect. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage and social media posts from the Rohit Godara gang, which reportedly claimed responsibility for the killing online.
