Bride Shot On Wedding Stage In Bihar: Celebration Turns Into Horror In Buxar
New Delhi / Buxar, Bihar: What began as a joyous wedding ceremony ended in horror after an 18-year-old bride was shot on stage during her garland exchange ritual in Bihar’s Buxar district.
The shocking incident, captured on camera, has triggered widespread outrage and renewed concerns over law and order in rural wedding gatherings.
According to reports, the incident took place late Tuesday night during the jaimala ceremony, a key Hindu wedding ritual where the bride and groom exchange garlands in front of guests.
Shot During Jaimala Ceremony
The bride, identified as Aarti Kumari, was standing on the decorated wedding stage with the groom when a man allegedly pulled out a firearm from within the crowd and opened fire. The bullet struck her in the stomach, causing immediate panic among the guests.
Eyewitnesses said chaos erupted within seconds as family members rushed to carry the bleeding bride away from the stage. The groom, who had arrived with his procession from Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh, was seen visibly shaken.
The celebrations were immediately halted.
The injured bride was first rushed to Sadar Hospital Buxar, where doctors provided emergency treatment. Due to the severity of her abdominal injury, she was later referred to a higher medical facility in Varanasi for advanced care.
Hospital sources described her condition as critical but stable following initial surgical intervention.
Preliminary police investigations suggest the accused is a local resident who allegedly harboured a one-sided obsession with the bride. Family members told investigators that the accused had been pressuring her for marriage for nearly two years, despite repeated rejection.
Police officials said the bride managed to identify the attacker before being shifted for treatment.
The accused fled the venue immediately after the shooting. Multiple police teams have launched raids to arrest him, and questioning of his relatives is underway.
Local police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. Officials said they are analysing video footage from the ceremony to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The incident has sparked sharp reactions in the area, with residents questioning how a firearm was brought into a crowded wedding venue without detection.
Authorities have assured swift action and promised that the accused will be arrested soon.
